Children’s Dental Cleaning

During your child’s dental cleaning appointment, your child may receive x-rays if they have not had them recently.  Our dentist will then examine your child’s mouth for cavities or any other conditions.  Following the exam, the dentist will review the results and answer any questions you or your child may have.  Following the exam, a hygienist will clean and polish your child’s teeth.

Why are Dental Cleanings Important for Kids?

Children are the most prone to cavities, which is why it is so important for parents and dentists to educate kids on proper oral hygiene.  It is essential to remember that although dental cleanings are beneficial, they serve as support to home oral care and cannot prevent plaque buildup and disease on their own.   Good and consistent home care is vital for maintaining healthy teeth and gums.

It is essential for children to visit a pediatric dentist on a routine basis for professional dental cleanings for a number of reasons, including the following:

  1. Plaque and tartar buildup, which can lead to tooth decay, can be removed during regular dental cleanings to help prevent cavities and tooth decay. This is done by removing the plaque and tartar buildup.
  2. Early detection of dental issues: Going in for routine dental checkups can assist in the early detection of any dental issues, such as crooked teeth or gum disease, allowing for treatment of these issues before they progress into more serious conditions.
  3. Developing healthy routines for oral hygiene. Regular dental cleanings can assist in assisting children in developing healthy routines for oral hygiene, such as brushing and flossing, which can assist in assisting in the prevention of dental problems in the future.
  4. The removal of stains, polishing of the teeth, and application of fluoride treatments to protect against decay are all aspects of dental cleanings that contribute to the maintenance of a healthy and robust set of teeth.
  5. Monitoring a child’s oral health. Pediatric dentists can better monitor the growth and development of a child’s teeth, gums, and jaw by performing routine dental cleanings on their patients. This allows them to identify any potential problems that may require additional treatment.

In general, ensuring that children receive routine dental cleanings is an important part of preventing dental problems in children and maintaining good oral health.
